Two of the worst batting units in IPL 2026 meet at a venue where runs are hard to come by. Something has to give – and it probably won't be runs.
LSG: bowling carries a broken batting line-up
LSG have lost four straight and sit ninth on the table. Their bowling has been excellent: best powerplay economy (7.59), most powerplay wickets (14), and best dot-ball percentage. Prince Yadav leads with 13 wickets, Mohsin Khan has a splendid economy of 6.80, and Mohammed Shami is deadly in the Powerplay.
The batting, though, is a disaster. LSG have the worst scoring rate in every phase – powerplay, middle overs, and death. Nicholas Pooran has a strike rate of 82 across seven innings. Rishabh Pant has blown hot and cold. Ayush Badoni is now opening, a role he has rarely played before.
Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram are yet to fire. Against a weak KKR attack, this is the chance for LSG's batters to turn it around (ESPNcricinfo).
KKR: Pathirana arrives, but batting remains a worry
KKR are bottom of the table with just one win in seven. Matheesha Pathirana is finally fit and available after an 18-crore signing that sat on the sidelines (Cricbuzz). He brings much-needed wicket-taking ability, especially in the Powerplay.
KKR's bowling has been the worst in the league: economy 10.82 and a boundary percentage of 27.15%. Their Powerplay bowling has conceded 11.83 runs per over. Varun Chakravarthy found form last game with 3 for 14, but the rest have struggled.
Batting is also a concern. KKR's openers have the worst Powerplay aggregate (144 runs at 20.6). Sunil Narine, Cameron Green, and Rovman Powell have not fired consistently. With Pathirana back, the bowling might improve, but the batting remains fragile.
Breakdown: low-scoring battle on a spinner's paradise
The black-soil pitch at Ekana is two-paced and assists spinners. No team has breached 200 in six innings here; the average first-innings score is just 155. Chasing teams have won 58.3% of matches, so dew could play a role later.
Both teams are in poor form. LSG have lost their last four home games. KKR have lost four of their last five. The head-to-head is tight, but the venue conditions favor bowlers. With LSG's attack and KKR's inept batting, a low-scoring game is on the cards.
The key matchup is LSG's pace unit (Shami, Prince, Mohsin) against KKR's fragile top order. KKR's openers have no momentum, while LSG's bowlers are ruthless in the Powerplay.
Prediction
Both teams struggle to score, and Ekana is a graveyard for batting. The average total here is 338, but these two are the weakest batting sides in the tournament. The under on total runs is the clear value.
Match prediction: Total Under 346.5, odds 1.748
